RICHMOND HILL, ON – Mackenzie Health awarded a contract to Compugen for Managed ICAT[1] Services (MIS) at the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. As a result, Compugen will be working with Mackenzie Health to provide and support an integrated technology platform to help build and implement its smart hospital vision. The partnership will also help create a number of new jobs to benefit the local community.

Under the smart hospital vision, Mackenzie Health plans to build a secured medical grade wired and wireless electronic platform. The smart system will include unified communications (audio/video) between providers and patients and access to patient portals, community provider portals and home health tools such as integrated private and secure patient electronic records. Compugen will provide infrastructure and services for the devices, network, security and technology management of the new hospital.

“With this contract we are realizing our vision for a smart hospital that will provide our patients and their families with the next level, high-quality care they need, when they need it, and transform the way healthcare is delivered in York Region. Our goal is achieve a truly ‘smart’ support service delivery model that is intuitive, patient-centred and highly efficient,” says Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health.

The smart hospital vision – applied at the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital as well as at the existing Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital – will create a truly connected patient experience inside and outside the hospital setting by utilizing digital communications and the Internet of Healthcare Things[2] to provide quality healthcare delivered through the eyes of the patient.

“We are delighted to be supporting Mackenzie Health as they implement their remarkable smart hospital vision. Compugen’s managed information services will provide the hospital with a highly available technology platform that is stable, adaptable and secure.  The mission-critical platform will allow for the introduction of cutting-edge medical technologies and connectivity both inside and outside of the hospital walls to enable integrated care. We applaud Mackenzie Health for their commitment to transforming healthcare delivery to better serve patients and their families,” said Harry Zarek, President and CEO, Compugen.

Expected to be completed in 2020, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first hospital in Canada to feature fully integrated “smart” technology, which features systems and medical devices that can speak directly to one another to maximize information exchange. Through modern and proven best practices, the hospital will provide state-of-the-art health care and positive outcomes for patients and their families.
