Toronto, ON, May 16, 2018 – Ascent, a leading provider of comprehensive data center solutions, announced today it has strategically expanded its business development team in Canada. Scott Metcalfe, a respected industry player, has joined Ascent as Vice President, Business Development.
This announcement follows Ascent’s 2017 acquisition of the TOR1 Data Center, located in Ontario’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) Corridor, between Waterloo and Toronto, in the City of Cambridge. The purpose-built facility and surrounding property enables Ascent to serve the growing demand for data center capacity in the world-renowned high-tech area of Ontario.
As the new VP, Business Development, Metcalfe has a 20+ year track record of industry success, having worked with Colliers International, Rogers Communications, Ehvert Mission Critical, JLL Data Center Solutions, TELUS, Ainsworth Electric and 151 Front Street West (Canada’s Carrier Hotel).
“Scott is an excellent addition to the Ascent team. His vast amount of local market knowledge and expertise will enable Ascent to bring TOR1 and its unique service offering to the Canadian market,” says Phil Horstmann, CEO of Ascent.
The overall TOR1 campus is 66 acres with the potential for 100+MW of gross power. The existing 270,000 square foot facility has multiple enterprise-class data halls with immediate availability, and plenty of space for expansion. As well, TOR1 offers 120,000 square feet of available shell space that can be programmed as required, including a high density, fast IT deployment block design featuring capacity up to 30 MW. The flexibility of the site, combined with Ascent as the service provider, gives customers the ability to utilize autonomous designs, establish builds with purchase opportunities or lease turnkey, powered shell space. TOR1 features enterprise-grade construction, reliability, efficiency, diverse cloud connectivity options, significant expansion space and power potential.
“I am proud to bring the Ascent TOR1 Data Center campus, along with Ascent’s robust data center services, to the Canadian marketplace,” says Metcalfe. “Canadian businesses understand the importance of housing their mission-critical IT infrastructure in a safe, reliable environment. Financial services companies, co-location providers and enterprise data center users alike have all begun to realize the value of 100% uptime.”
