Onica acquires Canadian AWS pioneer TriNimbus

Combined entity doubles down on collaboration with Amazon Web Services

Onica, a company at the forefront of the cloud computing boom, today announced its acquisition of TriNimbus Technologies, a leading DevOps specialist and Canada’s first Premier Consulting Partner in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN).

The use of cloud computing in Canada is accelerating rapidly with adoption of public cloud expected to surpass 50 percent by 2019. Through the acquisition of TriNimbus, Onica gains access to this growing geography through an AWS leader in the market; and taps into a rich pool of custom solution deployment tools that help engineers accelerate project success, and which will be added to the Onica Platform library.

“This is a defining moment for Onica. The acquisition of TriNimbus demonstrates an ongoing commitment to our relationship with AWS and confidence in its competitive position,” says Stephen Garden, CEO of Onica. “The fit with TriNimbus is natural as both companies are aligned in so many ways. Plus, we collectively believe in the concept of mastery, and with AWS able to support any workload, there are a wealth of solutions we can enable for our customers.”

With Onica acquiring Sturdy Networks in December 2017, its acquisition of TriNimbus marks three APN Premier Consulting Partners integrating to combine knowledge, resources, and learnings.

Onica helps customers innovate by leveraging the flexibility and scale of AWS. Backed by a platform of tooling and automation, Onica’s expertise spans solutions such as cloud connected devices; serverless application development; and migrating some of the world’s largest data center environments onto AWS. Onica has been recognized by independent analyst firm Gartner in the 2018 Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure Managed Service Providers, Worldwide.

“Both Onica and TriNimbus were born in the cloud, and have focused exclusively on AWS since inception,” says Jarrod Levitan, co-founder of TriNimbus and now Chief Growth Officer at Onica. “Together, we can accomplish so much more for our customers, deepening our expertise and helping them take advantage of cloud technology.”

TriNimbus was established in Vancouver and made Canadian tech history in 2015 as the first locally headquartered APN Premier Consulting Partner. With a focus on helping customers master the cloud, TriNimbus expanded coast to coast, opening five offices and launching 10 AWS community user groups to expand skills locally.

Also joining Onica senior ranks is TriNimbus co-founder Goran (Kima) Kimovski, who will take on the role of SVP of Global Customer Solutions. As CTO of TriNimbus, Kima led the development of pioneering capabilities in DevOps, Containers, and Security Solutions.

“This acquisition makes us one of the largest AWS consultancies in North America,” adds Garden. “Onica is in growth mode and will continue to invest and hire in Canada.”
